The serial on a 1987 Charvel Model 6, stamped into the last, blind fret of the fingerboard. The neck plate looks like a copy because of the serial number format and method used to apply it. Specifically, on the USA neck plates, aside from the odd serial itself, the serial should be engraved or stamped, and on the images you've posted, it isn't. If you google 'Charvel USA Neck Plate', there aren't really any results that look like this. For it to be pre-Fender, it has to be before 2002. 5 digit serials were apparently time limited and not used with and letter prefixes. This one is odd because it's the 3D style with CF and 5 digits. Looking at serial numbers and determining legitimacy is something I do in my daily work.
